Who are the 2023 Community Challenge winners?

After more than 1,600 communities tracked over 390 million physical activity minutes throughout June in the fourth edition of the ParticipACTION Community Challenge, we’re pleased to announce that Salisbury, New Brunswick, is Canada’s Most Active Community! They’ve won the $100,000 grand prize to support local physical activity and sport initiatives.

A group of people standing on a tennis court while holding pickleball racquets.“Congratulations to Salisbury and all of our provincial and territorial winners,” said Elio Antunes, President and CEO of ParticipACTION. “We hope the challenge motivated individuals to be physically active and contributed to building stronger, healthier and more inclusive communities.”

Residents of the Town of Salisbury tracked over 10 million physical activity minutes throughout June. More than 70 public activities were organized by the Town or in partnership with a long list of community organizations who rallied people to get moving – all free of charge to ensure everyone could participate.

“Winning this title is a testament to our sense of community and showcases how being active is in our nature,” says Mayor Robert Campbell. “Thank you to our residents and partners who joined us in showing the rest of Canada that Salisbury is a small community that does big things!”

Congratulations to the Most Active Communities in each province and territory!
