La mobilité<\/b><\/h3>\n

Les blessures liées aux chutes demeurent la principale cause d’hospitalisation chez les aînés au pays.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chaque année, entre 20 % et 30 % des aînés font une chute<\/span>.1<\/span><\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

Heureusement, pratiquer des activités comme l’entraînement musculaire ou la marche rapide sont d’excellentes façons d’atteindre les 150 minutes recommandées d’activité physique d’intensité moyenne à élevée par semaine. Cela contribue aussi à améliorer l’équilibre, la force et la stabilité, trois habiletés qui contribuent grandement à prévenir les chutes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le bien-être cognitif<\/b><\/h3>\n

Selon un rapport récent, d’ici 2031, près de 1,4 million d’adultes vivant au pays seront touchés par la démence, ce qui entraînera des coûts directs en soins de santé d’environ 16,6 milliards de dollars<\/span>.2<\/span><\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

Malheureusement, comme le principal facteur de risque de la démence est l’âge, on s’attend à ce que le nombre de personnes vivant avec un trouble du cerveau augmente.<\/span><\/p>\n

La recherche démontre que l’activité physique protège contre l’apparition de la démence, et qu’elle peut en ralentir la progression<\/span>.3<\/span><\/a><\/sup>4<\/span><\/a><\/sup> Donc, quand vous êtes physiquement actif, vous ne faites pas que garder votre corps en santé, vous protéger également votre cerveau.<\/span><\/p>\n

Les liens sociaux et l’esprit de communauté<\/b><\/h3>\n

La recherche indique qu’un adulte sur cinq éprouve un certain degré de solitude ou d’isolement<\/span>.5<\/span><\/a><\/sup> Les personnes les plus à risque?<\/span> Les personnes âgées! En raison du manque de mobilité, elles ont davantage de risque de se blesser à la suite d’une chute et de voir leur cercle social rétrécir.<\/span><\/p>\n

L’activité physique régulière libère des <\/span>endorphines<\/span><\/a> (en anglais) dans le cerveau, ce qui nous fait nous sentir heureux.
